Teaching Men To Fish

GORDON BLOCKER

Foundation Projects

A foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports charitable activities in order to serve the common good.  But if a foundation is to truly serve, it must strive to make the activities it supports self-sustaining.

You can give a hungry man a fish and that’s a good deed.  But the better deed

is to teach him to fish and he will never be hungry again.  It is an old adage,

but still remains true.

At Blocker Publishing, we have been helping foundations teach the fine art of fishing for some thirty five years. Most of our work with foundations has helped the organizations they support to grow – growth in terms of the number of people they serve; the size of their footprint in the community; in terms of increasing public awareness of the good they do; in terms of increasing the sustainability of their activities. Often this challenge includes the production of a documentary or public information film.
